Annual International Conference on Islamic Studies (AICIS) was first inisiated in 2000 by Post Garduate Directore Forum at in Semarang, Central java. The forum agreed to establish an annual forum later called Annual Conference on Islamic Studies (ACIS) The first conference of the series, the 1st ACIS was in 2000 at Semarang and organized by Post Graduate Program of at IAIN (now UIN) Walisongo Semarang. The following ACIS in series was at Padang, West Sumatra (2002), Yogyakarta (2003), Aceh (2004), Makassar, South Silawesi (2005), Bandung, West Java (2006), Pekanbaru, Riau (2007), Palembang, South Sumatera (2008), Surakarta, Central Java (2009), Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (2010), Bangka Belitung (2011) and in 2012 the IHE changed the form of the conference, ACIS become firstly known as AICIS, an annual international conference when it was held at Surabaya. The location of the following conference remain rotated among cities in Indonesia in collaborated with local the State IHE.

The AICIS series aims to provide the world a premier forum for discussion about the Islamic studies and its role on society and culture. The conferences bring together scholars, researchers and indeed all who are passionate about Islamic studies all over the world world to present, share, discuss, review, and develop their academic works. The conference is organized by IHE in collaboration with The local the state IHE as organizing committees. The conference have a series of keynote speeches,  panels, workshops, poster, forums, book review sessions.
